I read with interest recently the impending launch of Mitsubishi’s new electric car the i Miev. I was pleased at this announcement until I saw the cost £33,000!!! (this includes the £5,000 government incentive). I fail to see why this car would cost almost four times as much as a conventional vehicle running on fossil fuels and the same price as a Porsche Cayenne! How can anyone convince Joe public to go green and save on the environment when it would cost them more money? Everyone is concerned about co2 emissions but not when it will hit their pocket. The government should be doing more to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles. The conspiracist in me reckons by doing so would have a detrimental effect on the treasury coffers regarding fuel tax.
